Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Plant Manager for our North York, Toronto, ON, Canada.

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Plant Manager directs and manages the operations for safety, production scheduling, manufacturing, maintenance, and quality. This position will coordinate plant activities through the plant leadership team to ensure manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.

What you'll do:

Demonstrate and promote our Atkore values of Integrity, Respect, Excellence, Teamwork and Accountability through actions and decisions.

Lead a culture where no accidents are acceptable in the workplace; provide Safety and Health direction and support to personnel; ensures compliance with OHSA and environmental regulations; prioritizes shop floor organization and plant cleanliness as essential to successfully running a plant.

Drive an operational excellence agenda that accelerates the facilities improvement curve by implementation of Lean concepts such as SMED, TPM, OEE practices and optimizing operations for profitability.

Develop a presence on the shop floor and working relationship with the operators that allow for a positive work culture and high engagement while ensuring headcount, skills and training are aligned with global business objectives.

Improve our customer experience by providing world class service levels while managing inventory to a minimum level.

Establish and improve working capital initiatives to meet/exceed business targets, creating a flexible asset base while improving quality and equipment reliability.

Establish, maintain, and refine performance metric goals and objectives. Maintain and be accountable for KPI visual reporting while actively participating in Lean Daily Management activities, including GEMBA walks.

Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries.

Participate in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.

Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives. Hiring, performance management and compensation management responsibilities.

Communicate effectively using multiple formats to ensure proper engagement of the workforce and alignment within the business.

Build on current platforms to drive world-class manufacturing capability and ensuring that best practice processes are implemented to drive operational and manufacturing efficiencies.

Other Duties as required.


What you'll bring:

Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 5 years plant/general management experience in a manufacturing environment. (MBA Preferred).

Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements.

Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures strongly preferred.

Advanced knowledge and experience of Strut, Roll Forming, and Steel manufacturing.

Six Sigma / Project Management experience, Black Belt and Union experience strongly preferred.

Excellent written and communications skills.

Computer literate, Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint.

Proven experience as a mentor/developmental manager for employees with ability to work both as a member of a team, a team leader or as an individual contributor.

Experience managing in a matrixed organization.

Gain an understanding of your team. Work side-by-side with current manager to understand team and company goals.

Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of workers.

Monitor productivity and assist workers with productivity problems.

Begin learning our product, services, and key customer drivers to be the customers first choice by providing unmatched quality, delivery, and value.

Provide comprehensive leadership by developing the strategy and directing all aspects of operations at plants in region.


Within 6-months, you’ll:

Drive lean concepts into plant.

Establishing and refining performance metric goals and objectives.

Building the best organizational structure and managing headcount to optimize conversion cost and productivity across the plant.

Partner with Safety and HR to investigate and provide corrective measures for on-the-job accidents, injuries, production issues, and HR issues.

Identify ways to strengthen the team’s commitment to Atkore’s core values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.


Within 12-months, you’ll:

Be managing an efficient team that delivers Atkore’s strategy.

Have meaningful performance conversations with your direct reports.

Successfully perform all job requirements and duties.

Increase hourly production rates using Lean Daily Management.
